To whom it may concern,
My name is Tracy Jackson and I am a student at the College of Wooster in Ohio. I am writing you today to first express how pleased I am with my volunteer experience in Tijuana during my first week of Spring break. I enjoyed my time so much that I would like to return during the summer. I am interested in learning more about Mexico and its people, especially Mexican immigration. Also, I would like to advance my spanish conversational skills. My school (College of Wooster) offers fellowships for students pursuing to obtain experiential learning during the summer months.
If I receive the fellowship, I would like to spend about 6-8 weeks:
working as a photo-journalist in Tiujana—using photography to raise awareness about social issues people are facing in Mexico (ie: boarder, poverty, etc.).
Having some form of language tutor or class- to improve my spanish speaking abilities
Volunteering at—Casa del Migrante and Esperanza.
May you be willing to help me with all of these things? As you know there are many stereotypes about Mexico that needs to be broken. I feel like my time volunteering and documenting the beauty of Mexico will be a great way for me to begin tearing down negative misconceptions that my family, friends, and campus may have about Mexico.
What do you think? I am wiling to discuss further my ideas. I would also like to hear from you as far as what I should document (my ideas relate to “the fence” issue) etc.
[Also, i cover any necessary costs that would allow me to get the most from this potential experience.]
Thanks for your consideration,
Tracy
